Abstract:
Virtual Reality (VR) has the potential to transform the way sports training is feedback with the aim of improving the learning of a skill. In this research, a novel feedback environment in VR was developed to train the motor skill of heading in soccer. The feedback system is made up of 3 elements:
a) performance statistics, which contains quantitative data on heading and the score achieved in a ranking,
b) three-dimensional representation of headings in a mock-up, which refers to a representation with a scale model of how the headers were executed during the exercise, allowing the user to see their movements in the third person, and
c) specific videos on how to improve the biggest weakness identified by the app that the user is presenting.
Among the most relevant characteristics of the proposed training feedback system, it can be highlighted that: The presentation of the statistical analysis is accompanied by gamification elements, which allows to increase the levels of motivation when the experience is used. On the other hand, the possibility that the user can additionally see himself in the third person, allows him to have a different perspective of analysis of his own movements, information that can also be used by a trainee to suggest improvements in postures and training.
It is concluded that VR potentiates the impact of feedback elements on the participant due to its ability to generate immersion in the situation. This study provides evidence for the development of systems that provide feedback in VR for sports skills training to achieve better results in athletes. Keywords:
