Abstract:
In this work we study the use of university tutoring in the model of teaching-learning that the European Higher Education Area fosters. Our aim is to encourage its use, especially benefitting from information and communication technologies. We have carried out a teaching innovation project during the course of 2014-15 in the Pablo de Olavide University. Students enrolled in the second course have taken part, but they belong to very different degrees. The students have answered two questionnaires. The first included questions related to tutoring, prior educational data, evolution in the Degree, study habits, etc. This information enabled us to know what kind of students studies each subject and the use of tutoring was enhanced according to their peculiarities. At the end of the semester the second questionnaire had to do with the amount and type of tutoring that they had had, their degree of satisfaction with it and how they valued virtual tutoring. Our main conclusion is that the students are not aware of the role that tutoring may play in their training process and that they opt for a greater use of virtual tutoring. This is why we consider that it is necessary for university professors to make an effort in the coming years to boost the use of tutoring. To do so, they can draw on using new technologies. Training professors in the subject and a greater involvement of the students will be key factors in order to take advantage of the potential of tutoring in higher education.
