Abstract:
This study examines communication between Arab university students from 16 countries and first year faculty from six western countries in the United Arab Emirates. Emergent themes from participant-observations and interviews include cultural messages influencing faculty communication and four communication strategies employed by students. Results are examined in relation to anxiety/uncertainty management theory and student learning.
