Abstract:
The Tutoring Programme (TP) is implemented by Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and is running in several programmes since 2003/04. It is essentially sustained by teachers' (Tutors) work, who provide coaching in a personalized way to a group of students (Tutees) from the 1st and 2nd year. Tutor’s work is intended to facilitate students’ development, in order to maximize their intellectual, emotional and interpersonal potential.

The main goals of the TP are:

- To provide students with support along their education
- To support students’ transition from secondary to higher education
- To promote students’ academic competencies
- To provide early identification of situations of academic underachievement
- To contribute to the improvement of teaching quality at IST
- To support the activities related to courses’ Coordination

The authors focus on TP dissemination and assessment activities, and will elaborate on the monitorization, follow-up and training activities intended for both Tutors and Tutees. Preliminary data concerning the quantitative analysis of Tutoring impact on the students’ academic results will be presented and the implications for future improvements of the Program are discussed.
