Abstract:
Project-based education is suitable for the development of cross-curricular relations and for teaching in integrated units, it also strengthens the individualisation of educational process. Further, it activates the students, teaches them teamwork skills and develops their work and learning habits. Some secondary technical schools use the project teaching method in end-of-studies projects, others apply it throughout the entire study period. Project-based education can be a part of a regular school timetable and distributed regularly throughout the school year, or it can be held in larger learning blocks. Typical topics suitable for the implementation of project teaching at secondary technical schools are making computer programs, design and construction of a meteorological station followed by analysis and visualization of its acquired data, or the use of mobile robotics and the means of industrial and home automation. An interesting and valuable experience for the students is also a collaboration with companies on specific tasks from practice. This paper provides theoretical knowledge of project-based education especially at secondary schools and gives a demonstration of its practical use at a technically oriented secondary school.
