Abstract:
This work presents a proposal for coordination among various subjects related to energy saving and energy efficiency in buildings for the Degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of La Rioja. These subjects, which are taught in different courses and semesters, are Fundamentals of Thermal Engineering; Thermal Machines and Engines; Basic Mechanical Installations; and Energy Saving in Buildings.
To achieve such coordination, the following tasks need to be conducted, all of which are focused on the integration of energy saving and energy efficiency in these subjects:
(i) searching for, selecting and analysing content, skills to be developed, learning outcomes, activities to be developed and assessment systems;
(ii) identifying the shared content and skills that will be addressed among the different subjects;
(iii) creating a global project that includes all of the activities to be developed, with its different parts adapted to the profile of each subject;
(iv) prioritizing and sequencing these activities such that they follow in a logical order and are learned incrementally; and
(v) developing an assessment system for this project with corresponding rubrics with common criteria for all subjects.
All of these tasks will not only allow for taking advantage of efforts and strategies that are proven to improve learning but also lead to improvements in teaching quality, the applicability of theoretical content, skill acquisition and the evaluation process.Keywords:
