Abstract:
Since the middle of the 20th century, many buildings with heritage values have had different conservation or rehabilitation interventions or implement new uses. The criteria, methodologies and materials have been gradually changing. They have been adapting to better respect for spatial aspects and constructive values, as well as maintenance and management requirements. It has been a collective and multidisciplinary work that has allowed this valuable heritage to regain its availability for society as a whole. These buildings are also a great tourist, economic, and cultural resource, allowing the integration and participation of people with functional diversity in society. However, access is sometimes not easy due to the characteristics of the building and its restoration, the conditions of the property or even some limitations necessary due to the impact of tourism. In this regard, teaching Universal Accessibility will help students address inclusive design and accessibility in Heritage buildings in a practical way; The recognition and experimentation of the limitations of different types that we can find when visiting a heritage building or that have some cultural interest essential for students to internalize these situations and then apply them correctly in their works and proposals. This article tries to share and propose new learning activities to achieve an accessible, inclusive and better design for all.
