Abstract:
The objective of this research was to analyze the effects of Physical Education classes on perception of mood among Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) students. The sample consisted of 178 students of both sexes from Barcelona (Spain). The POMS questionnaire validated by Andrade et al. (2013) was used to assess the perceived mood state. The questionnaire analyzes 6 dimensions: Tension, Depression, Anger, Vigor, Fatigue and Friendship. The results showed changes in the perception of students’ mood states, specifically an improvement in the dimensions of tension, depression, anger, fatigue, and vigor. However, worse perception was observed in the friendship dimension. In general, no significant differences were observed based on gender, except in the fatigue dimension, which decreased significantly in girls. We also found significant differences in mood state perception when considering the type of Physical Education session performed. A marked improvement in mood was perceived after the Body Expression sessions compared to the Sports sessions.
