Abstract:

The search of educational resources is a constant activity done by college students during their learning process. Search engines help to solve this problem, but they are normally developed for commercial purposes. Personalizing educational resources is shown in literature and tries to provide students with materials that fulfill their academic needs.

This study has the objective of installing a web platform with a search engine to explore the activities users do while surfing references of educational sources which are used for their learning process. The mentioned engine is a tool that allows users to follow their behavior and to build a personalization proposal.

A first working prototype was designed and developed for the search of educational materials of a college subject called “Applied programming”. Then, an evaluation of the platform was applied through a usability survey to 80 users, which included 8 specific tasks. Finally, a satisfaction survey was applied.

The performed evaluation showed the opinion of the users while performing the activities of the web system. The 70% considered the platform was simple and easy to use, the 63% mentioned they were able to perform the tasks. In the feedback, the user expressed the importance of following developing this web platform, giving comments for its improvement in execution, content and interface.
