MULTIMEDIA TECHNOLOGIES APPLIED TO SCIENCE SUBJECTS

Multimedia technologies provide a wide range of sources for teaching activities [1-3]. However, their incorporation in the classroom is relatively recent. In the last years the incorporation of interactive whiteboard has increased the presence of these new technologies in the university teaching activities. Among the different resources, internet is probably the one with higher potential.
This study describes innovations by using internet facility in teaching a course developed in the area of Chemical Engineering. The course was focus on microbiological and engineering topics.
The methodology developed for each class is base on a Powerpoint presentation in the interactive whiteboard. As introduction or to explain some specific topics different videos from internet are linked. The presented videos are mainly in English thus, the presence of foreign languages in the classroom is included. On the other hand, in order to ensure the student attention several questions are formulated about different parts of the video. At the end of the video the answered questions of each student are collected to evaluate their understanding.
After this experience can be conclude that use of videos from internet, has shown that students were better able to comprehend the presented topic.
