Abstract:
The paper addresses the pressing issue of teaching English for public administration domain as a second language to master degree students at the Moscow University for Foreign Affairs (MGIMO university). The changing paradigm of learning in the era of total domination of the web is examined. During the Covid pandemic students studying at home came to use a lot of supplementary materials from internet sources which helped some of them to study better and others to get the grades they did not deserve as they resorted to using various soft-ware programs to do their home assignments for them (writing essays, reviews, abstracts, etc.). The question arises whether the teachers are equally savvy to grade such ‘homework’. Conversely, the learning paradigm is undergoing a rapid shift towards web-aided learning and teaching. The pros and cons of students using computers in the classroom are discussed. The opening venues for investigating new sophisticated methodology approaches to teaching English at an advanced level are proposed. It is suggested that there is a growing need for a comprehensive comparative analysis of old and new English language teaching practices to be conducted.
