Abstract:
Women have made significant progress in achieving leadership positions in organizations over the past few decades. However, they still face challenges and barriers with regards to advancing to top management roles. This study will examine the current state of research on women and management along with their potential for career development. Accordingly, we will identify current obstacles that women face, namely those associated to structural and interpersonal barriers. Moreover, we will suggest strategies that enable women to overcome these barriers, all the while highlighting the benefits of having more women in leadership positions. Finally, we turn our attention to gaps, alternatives, and practical questions in order to shed light on the external factors that have been overlooked in order to facilitate training applications. Indeed, gender equity in the workplace has proven to be beneficial to all, from improved organizational performance and innovation, to greater diversity and inclusion. Clearly, we must understand why employability issues for women remain an ongoing challenge. Some believe that barriers have been tackled from the wrong angle. As well, the way we conduct business has shifted significantly in the last three years, creating changes with organizational structures, policies, and expectations. Consequently, it is possible to hope that the results will favour women. Interestingly, it has been argued that analyzing the impact of men’s engagement, power dynamics, communication differences, and the residual effects of the pandemic are factors that are relevant to explore in our quest. Moving forward, we must rethink how work is done and implement values and standards that cater to diversity, equity and inclusion. Therefore, we will underline the importance of practical tactics, mindset shifts, management training and collective efforts to actively and effectively help women advance in their careers. Overall, the goal is to accentuate the need for ongoing research and contribute to the discussion in order to create a more equitable and inclusive workplace for all.
