Abstract:
This study was undertaken to identify the roles and responsibilities of supervisors during teaching practice. It also attempts to obtain information on how teaching practice is carried out at University Putra Malaysia and University Malaya Kuala Lumpur. In addition, it also examines the process of classroom observation practice in Sultan Idris Education University which has some shortcomings. Based on the need for a better relationship between the supervisors and trainee teachers, it proposes a 'new' instrument. The 'new' instrument has a focused item and encourages the supervisors and the trainee teachers to collaborate as partners in classroom observation. A training workshop is suggested to guide and provide practical experience for supervisors to use the 'new' instrument. The instrument is a 'tool' to raise supervisors' awareness of their roles as positive and supportive helpers to trainee teachers as well as collaborators in classroom observations. Keywords:
Supervisors, classroom observation.
