Abstract:
Obtaining an international accreditation as ABET from a Mining engineering program, which validates the international standards of knowledge, abilities, and skills acquired by the students during their academic training, reflect the organization and proper planning of each of the activities that guarantee the training and scope of Student Outcomes (OS), as well as compliance with standards in the curriculum, faculty, administrative bodies, laboratories, advisory committee, and alumni. The current global situation given by the COVID-19 Pandemic tests an entire career's ability to meet the international standards reached, even with this new virtual model of teaching-learning in a career with a significant practical component in laboratory and on-site.
This paper will present the alternatives and decisions made to meet the 8 ABET criteria, the training and evaluation of 8 SO (including one institutional SO), the fulfillment of the program's educational objectives, and the execution of the improvement plan of the year 2020 to maintain and, where possible, improve the standards of quality education. Also, rescuing the opportunities that arise due to man's adaptation when facing a global health crisis that contributes to the teaching-learning process.
The strongest criteria are: students, faculty, facilities, institutional support, despite the current budget limitations in Ecuador for being a public university. The criterion of continuous improvement is one of the current challenges for its completion and implementation in order to meet all expectations in the future. Keywords:
