Abstract:
Research suggests that cooperative learning provides long-term support and assistance for academic progress [1]. However, large production groups have been inefficient and causes a decline in creativity. By following a formal, cooperative learning strategy centered on dyadic teams, my project-based courses have yielded the most innovative results. The usefulness of dyads as an alternative to larger groups or individual work has been shown to make learning more collaborative and active [2].
Motion Tools 1 is a digital media video capture and editing class using DSLR cameras. This course requires a variety of video/audio exercises and projects producing creative videos. During the production phase of these projects, students pair up in teams of two. Dyads yield much higher efficiency and quality. Dyadic interaction also produces higher creativity than those working alone or in larger groups.
This paper will explain the development of this project-based course in order to yield impressive results. In the presentation, examples of student work will be shown, and a cooperative learning strategy that enhances creativity and the quality of projects will be explained. Keywords:
