Abstract:
This work investigates the potential impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Chatbots tools in basic education in the city of Alagoa Grande, in the interior of the state of Paraíba-Brazil. AI chatbot tools, such as ChatGPT and Bard, are a type of technology that has aroused interest in the educational context due to their ability to provide quick and personalized responses to students and improve the teaching and learning process. The study raises several questions related to AI chatbot tools in basic education, highlighting the identification of the main characteristics of the tools, the advantages and disadvantages of their use in basic education, the training of teachers for their use in the classroom and the structure of schools to ensure the effectiveness of the use of these tools. The methodology used in this work adopted a mixed approach that involved bibliographical research through the use of specific keywords in a scientific database and a questionnaire applied to 31 teachers from public and private schools in Alagoa Grande, covering different levels of education. Through the investigation of tools and the perception of teachers, we sought to understand how the adoption of AI chatbots can influence teaching and learning in schools in the region. The analysis of the collected data showed that the general perception of the participants was positive regarding the use of technology in education, most teachers use specific applications for their subjects, with an emphasis on the possibilities of developing students' skills and increasing engagement in the process of learning. However, technical difficulties were also identified, such as lack of internet access and adequate infrastructure in schools, which impact the implementation of technologies. In addition, many teachers still lack specific knowledge about AI chatbots and feel the need for training before adopting these tools in their educational practices. The study results also highlight the importance of carefully considering the use of AI chatbot tools in basic education, considering both the positive aspects and the challenges and limitations. Although there is significant potential to improve the teaching and learning process, it is crucial to invest in adequate infrastructure and teacher training to ensure the effectiveness of these tools in schools. Teachers' divergent opinions regarding the use of AI in education demonstrate the need to approach this issue in a balanced way, understanding the possible benefits and negative impacts on the educational process. Ultimately, the successful integration of AI chatbot tools will depend on adapting appropriately to the local context, aiming to improve student learning and raise the quality of basic education in Alagoa Grande, state of Paraíba, Brazil.
