Abstract:
This research explores how the application of VSC (Video Screen Capture) software, Camtasia Studio 5®, enhances the writing performance of three EFL (English as a Foreign Language) learners. The focal participants are one English teacher and three of the students in his writing class in a Taiwan college. Data sources include the drafts, interviews, and recorded videos of a writing assignment on computers for four weeks. Data analysis focuses on, first, the video of their first writing drafts and, secondly, the first drafts of their writing. We argue that by using VSC software to record the students’ writing process the instructors are able to observe the students’ writing so that students’ personal needs in writing could be satisfied. The videos of writing processes recorded by VSC software enable researchers/instructors to locate the writing problems and individualize their personal needs to fix their writing problems. By discussing them with teachers, students might enhance their writing performance by increasing the self-awareness of their writing problems.
