Abstract:
The article is devoted to the problem of students' communicative competence development in teaching a specialized foreign language. Research in this area confirms the fact that motivation can significantly improve the efficiency of foreign language learning. Motivation depends on the number of facts among which there is the following: whether the student is fond of studying the culture of the country of the foreign language and communicating with the native speakers or not; whether the student likes or dislikes the whole educational process including his attitude to the teacher, his classmates and others.
The forming and developing only external motivation based on the teacher’s critics and grades can be detrimental for the whole process of learning a foreign language due to the diminishing of the students’ internal motives.
The article provides a number of methods of foreign language teaching which enhance students’ motivation. The authors emphasize the need to form and maintain students’ internal motivation to learn a foreign language through the development of such qualities as autonomy and competence. Keywords:
