Abstract:
This paper deals with an ongoing assessment of a an undergraduate course based on short reflections submitted by students after every lesson, as part of the course requirements. The goal of the reflections was to monitor perceptions of the students relating to content, pedagogy and the learning process in an effort to respond appropriately to their needs. Students wrote about various topics applying to the course, e.g. what they had learned during the lesson (as opposed to what was done in the lesson), attitudes towards peer reviewing, implementation of PBL, cooperative pair discussions etc. A total of about 300 reflections were compiled using the Blog tool incorporated in the LMS. The reflections made it possible for the instructor to adapt the pedagogy and content of the course to needs articulated by the students during the semester, and to follow the learning process and difficulties experienced by particular students. Qualitative analysis of all the reflections, after the course had ended, deepened understanding of what students perceive as a meaningful learning experience.
