Abstract:
The article highlights the activities of children and youth organizations of the late XIX - early XX century. An important methodological approach to the knowledge of children and youth movement as a socio-pedagogical phenomenon was the scientific understanding of the factors of its occurrence. The children movement has become a prominent socio-cultural phenomenon in many countries around the world, which not only reflects the trends of social development, but has become a significant stimulus to the development of science and practice of education.

The authors have found out that the world children movement of the late XIX - early XX century was represented by a number of children groups, diverse in form and content of activity, both self-organized and purposefully organized. The main directions of the children movement development of the studied period, such as patriotic (military-patriotic), culturological, social, ecological (naturalistic), scout, etc. have been distinguished.
