Abstract:
Due to the implementation of new curricula degrees inside the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) in the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Navales (ETSIN) from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), the old curriculum (Plan 2002) has been gradually disappearing. This is the reason why there is a need to help students to overcome those subjects that are not taught anymore in order to avoid changing curricula.

During the course 2012-2013, it began a monitoring of a group of subjects distinguishing between three different levels of use of the online platform. In this course 2013-2014 this monitoring has continued with such contrasting academic results of those students who have used the online platform.

The aim of the work done is simply to check whether there is a relationship between students who have typically used the virtual platform and those who have passed the course, in order to assess whether it is really useful to the student the support through online platforms in this Plan 2002 subjects that are not taught anymore.

For this purpose, there has been a monitoring of the students who have used the online platform in the subjects without teaching and the number of times that it has been used. Some of the subjects of this platform have provided them, not only notes and exercises but also self-assessments whose results have positively influenced the final grades for those students who have made them. All the information obtained from the monitoring of students and their activities in the online platform has been compared with the results achieved in the final exams.
