Abstract:
Employment represents an important part of many people lives. In order to achieve satisfaction in life and at work, it is assumed that people choose and then work in such areas that meet their basic needs. During the career the picture of those needs is consolidated and completed, which is reflected in the outlook of their own talents and abilities, motives, attitudes and values associated with not only the professional career, but as well as life and living.

Our research focused on monitoring the attitudes, values and motives of teachers of primary and secondary schools of the Czech Republic. To obtain the necessary data we used a questionnaire of career anchors by E.H. Schein. The sample consisted of 180 teachers of elementary and secondary schools. The results suggest that teachers belong to a group of employees who are dominantly have the need to combine career and their lifestyle, which plays an important role in the balance between work and private (family) life. Personal life for these individuals is often preferred. Another important need is a work for 'reliable' organizations (often government), which provide a degree of certainty which these people also look for.
