Abstract:
This study aims to relieve the virtual reality (VR) sickness by suggesting a new, easier, simpler and more efficient questionnaire as an evaluation method of VR sickness. The VR technology gives us unconventional experience which we have not seen before. It is a hot topic that draws public attention in the Information Technology field. However, there are some drawbacks for users on using the VR contents. The typical side effect caused by the VR contents is the VR sickness. When the VR sickness increases, users feel uncomfortable and have difficulties on experience of VR contents. Therefore, reducing the VR sickness is the first priority to provide a stable and sustainable VR experience to users. In this study, we analyzed the existing VR sickness questionnaires to clarify the shortcomings and developed them by comparing and analyzing considering the current technology situation of VR. The method of the study is as follows. We investigated the preceding works dealing with the VR sickness questionnaires and looked up for the strengths and weaknesses of them. Next, we searched for the causes that bring on VR sickness. After analyzing the items of the questionnaires, we supplemented the weaknesses shown on the questionnaire items. Consequently, we could simplify the questionnaire items of the original ones, and could supplement the weaknesses shown in them. As a result, the new questionnaire came out to be simpler, easier, and more efficient. Verification procedures are to be further carried out for the new questionnaires as for the future task. It is anticipated that the new questionnaires are to be further used widely and give aid to evaluation and improvements on VR sickness.
