Abstract:
The improvement of the technical performance of e-textbooks involves understanding today's requirements, needs and expectations of both interest categories, learners and teachers. The role of digital educational resources in teaching and learning processes were clustered and features as interactivity, effective feedback, guidelines, usability, creativity and functionality were described. Responses of an open question about necessary components of digital textbooks that may improve the educational performance are discussed in the context of the necessity to improve teaching and learning activities. The survey contains open-ended questions related to this subject and was disseminated in digital form to 350 teachers. Only 162 answers were analyzed, received from research participants who had used e-textbook before. The outcomes highlight the importance of the interactive content containing virtual simulations/demonstrations. This type of content can also include links to tutorials recommended by teachers (i.e. YouTube and more). Many teachers have identified a greater need for game-based learning content for digital textbooks as a powerful instruction tool. Different and many evaluation instruments, including those involving multiple choice response, were identified as being important for e-textbooks. The result of this analysis will be used to improve the future digital textbooks.
