Abstract:
The changes, that took place in recent decades in Latvia in ideology, in an economy and in a policy appropriately influenced also changes in education, which created pre-conditions for development of competition in education. One of the most important changes in the system of education in Latvia was decentralization of power in the end of 20th century, that allowed to develop for various educational forms in Latvia, that was not possible under the centralized soviet system. Schools had to start to care for filling of students, for a financial management and it’s attraction. If the school has more students, it has more financing, more possibilities to exist and to develop. The schools of Latvia had rights to raise private funds, which promoted rise and growth of private educational establishments.
The competition stimulates development of organizations and quality of service, competition promotes introduction of new ideas, new search of original ways in realization of these ideas, thereby recruit more clients.
Advantages of competitive school lean on four factors:
v Efficiency
v Quality
v Innovations
v Desires of clients
The use of technical teaching aids in the educational process affects the development of all factors of competitiveness and it is precondition for successful activity of school. But, that so truly would be competitive and acquire advantages, the school has to be superior for competitors in efficiency, in quality, in introduction of innovations or society as recipients of educational service satisfaction of demands.
Objective external evaluation, and also a school self - appraisal process promotes good competition between schools.
In the performed research there were analyzed the factors which influences competition that influence the children and their parents when they choose the school for basic education.
