TEACHER TRAINING IN ICT AND THE INTRODUCTION OF NEW DEGREES IN THE EUROPEAN HIGHER EDUCATION AREA

Abstract:
This paper details the features of a training process in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The above mentioned process begins with the lecturers’ training and continues through the gradual introduction of some tools integrated in the 1st year with the aim of developing student’s ICT skills.

2009-2010 has been the first academic year offering the Teacher Training degree adapted to the new European Higher Education Area (EHEA) in the Faculty of Humanities and Education of Mondragon Unibertsitatea. This new challenge has been used to introduce some technological tools in several subjects of the degree as well as an adaptation to the requirements arising from the Bologna Declaration. The introduction of tools like blogs, wikis and social tagging is justified by their potential for the development of personal and specific professional skills in the curriculum, in addition to their presence and usefulness in society. Lecturers were the first ones being trained due to the fact that they become protagonists in this implementation with their students. That is why the process has been focused both on pedagogical and technological aspects.

The aim of this paper is to explain the basis of this experience in higher education justified with a literature review. Some conclusions and practical implications that this initiative means in training and development of the community of teachers and students in this faculty will also be analyzed.
