Abstract:
Since the foundation in 1969 of the Project Management Institute (PMI), the figure of the project management has reached heights never reached before. From the development of complex space telescopes, to the implementation of production systems and the conception of new products, the scope of project management is overwhelming.

This paper aims to explore the applicability that project-oriented management can find in the field of education. At first, the different areas of knowledge will be identified. They will be placed in context in regards to the university environment. Areas as integration, scope, schedule, cost, quality, resources, communications, risks, procurement and stakeholder managements will take the focus of this study. The unlimited connection between disciplines and right education can come from this approach that highlights the boundaries of the project management methodology.

But the scope of this work does not stands just in the application of a methodology by itself. The second part of the research will explore the benefits of providing the students a project management approach to lead their learning experience and succeed in the reach of their certification (PhD title).

The target community for this study is PhD students with international mention (from two different countries, Spain and Germany). The quantitative data are collected from the student´s perception analyzed using statistical tests. In this way, results highlight the correlation between the usability of a methodology firmly established in the industrial world (Project Management) and learning results in international educational innovation.

This research has been carried out within the teaching innovation project entitled “Inter-lectures. A positive rebound for English teaching”.
