Abstract:
The crisis associated with the spread of coronavirus COVID-19 has highlighted the importance of information and communication technologies in higher education. The article describes overcoming the challenges of education during a pandemic from the perspective of students of the University of Zilina. During a pandemic, students have to overcome many changes and challenges, which relate mainly to the methods of education and testing, but also to learning from the environment of their homes. The aim of the paper is to point out the views of students on the distance learning process obtained via primary research carried out at the university. Previous studies indicate point to the fact that it can be generally stated that there are more satisfied students than dissatisfied ones. They confirmed that there is almost non-existence of technical barriers and digital skills in the use of modern information technologies by students. Various studies suggest that, in many cases, students would prefer a switch to a combination of online and traditional place-based learning. Disadvantages include significant differences in the quality of students' learning in the case of different subjects and the stress resulting from the transition to a new way of learning. The results of these studies are compared with the results of the primary research carried out at the University of Zilina.
