Abstract:
In Fall 2014, Khan Academy was used as an Open Educational Resource in one of the classes at Middle East College, Sultanate of Oman. In this class, students were asked to create a Khan Academy account with the class instructor as the Khan Academy coach. The students used the website’s question bank to practice and answer exercises on certain lessons, mainly on techniques of integration. The instructor/coach used the website’s analytics to monitor the progress of the students, and intervene as necessary. This paper discusses in detail how the Khan Academy was used in this class, and how the website helped the students answer exercises as a formative assessment. For this class, two summative assessments were given to the students within the semester. One assessment is for lessons which did not use Kahn Academy, and the second assessment is for lessons where Khan Academy was used. Results of the assessments were also compared in this paper.
