Abstract:
Intergenerational Co-Leadership Model (ICLM) is conceptualized as a novel way to provide retired citizens and university students with co-leadership training opportunities so they can help promote intergenerational contacts and operate programs together. In Hong Kong context, an opportunity to demonstrate the value of ICLM has been opened up. As a four-tier certificate program offered by the Institute of Active Ageing at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, a group of retired citizens and university students will:
(1) attend a taught course in intergenerational studies,
(2) gain internship experience from an intergenerational (IG) program,
(3) co-run at least one IG lesson, and
(4) get involved in evaluating an IG program.
Throughout the training, emphasis will be given to facilitating intergenerational contacts, creating a relaxed atmosphere, and managing program-wise details. Upon completion, the participants will also receive stipends while the student trainees can obtain university credits. To evaluate ICLM, the participants will respond to a questionnaire designed to examine their training experience in terms of perceived benefits, difficulties, and recommendations. Keywords:
