Abstract:
One of the main goal of higher education is to improve the student’s background and training in academic, professional, social and personal fields. There are numerous universities that have detected a certain disorientation in students that arrive at the University. For that reason, universities have introduced mentoring programs that facilitate the passage to the new educational stages and its transit through the university. In this article, we present an experience where the concept of mentorship is extrapolated to the academic field. Specifically, in our experience, several fourth-year students volunteer as mentors for second-year students. In this way, our experience is developed in a Computer Science Degree and with Human Computer Interaction subjects. Fourth students course acting as advisors to those students who are introduced in this field in the second year. In this experience not only we improve the student’s learning process but also they develop transversal competences such as leadership, interpersonal communication and responsibility.
