Abstract:
Many higher education institutions worldwide have been fully shifted to online teaching due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, education has dramatically changed, with the distinctive emergence of e-learning, whereby teaching is undertaken remotely and on digital platforms. This sudden curriculum transformation has happened without adequate planning that overwhelmed the function and outcomes of education.
Although various teaching methods are used in the classroom, including lectures and tutorials for presenting and sharing concepts that can be implemented equally online, technology has played a greater role in online education, transforming how lessons are delivered and received. For this reason, educators have explored new ways to deliver their lessons virtually.
This paper focuses on introducing various online teaching/learning techniques for enhancing students’ academic achievement in the online learning environment, such as live online classes, recorded video lectures, online whiteboard, live chatting, and flipped classroom. The introduction of such techniques was considered as a case study at the Prince Sultan University in Riyadh. To determine the effectiveness of the methods adopted, qualitative data were obtained, and the questionnaire responses were analyzed. The findings showed that students believe that the implemented techniques were instrumental in designing online lessons.
