Outside the large age range of clients, the assistant must have a broad perspective in many fields. The basic fields include law, psychology, methods of social work, etc. A special area is helping victims of crime. This area of activity of social workers has been developed in the Czech Republic for a few years, since the adoption of the Act on Assistance to Victims of Crime. The main topic of the article is the necessary education of social workers working in the field of assistance to victims of crime, so that they can provide their clients with necessary assistance. The work deals with specific institutions for victims of crime, which can be used in the Czech Republic. The practical part provides a self-assessment of the current education of social workers who work with victims of crime. Furthermore, the helping skills are reflecting the necessary skills and knowledge that they need for their work and outline the following education, useful for working with the target group.
