Abstract:
Helping particularly vulnerable crime victims is a topical issue worldwide. Legislation in the Czech Republic aimed at helping victims of crime is based on Directive 2012/29 / EU of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing minimum rules on the rights, support and protection of victims of crime. In the Czech Republic, thanks to these changes, there are new possibilities of protection of rights and forms of assistance to crime victims.

Assistance to victims of particularly vulnerable crimes is becoming an important area for social work and other helping professions. In connection with the newly passed Act on Victims of Crime, there are problems in communication and work of social workers with victims of crime. Until the law was passed, social workers carried out this agenda only to a limited extent and were not specifically prepared for this role. This contribution will examine the role of social workers in the system of assistance to crime victims. It will address what these workers need in their work, how their training and education in this area could be improved.
