Abstract:
The paper deals with English restaurant terms taught to university students trained as translators and interpreters at the translation practice lessons. The relevance of the research is determined by the interest to the restaurant business vocabulary due to dynamic development of the industry. The rise in international communication in this professional sphere enhances the role of translators and interpreters and requires a deep analysis of the terminology. The aim of the article is to study the structural peculiarities of the English terms in the sphere of restaurant business and the ways of their translation into Russian. We used such research methods as descriptive, statistical, continuous sampling method and method of structural analysis. The study showed that the main ways of enriching restaurant terminology in the English language are semantic derivation, borrowing and word-building. Most terms are formed by means of affixation, conversion and word-composition. The most frequently used techniques of translation of the English restaurant terms into Russian are the use of equivalent, transcription, transliteration, explanatory and calque translation.
