Abstract:
Stress management and coping is a natural part of the undergraduate training process for university students. The research study aims to examine coping of preschool and elementary pedagogy students and social pedagogy students in the context of undergraduate training. The research sample consists of 181 students in the age range from 19 to 26 for internal students and from 19 to 46 for external students of the Faculty of Education, University in Trnava, Slovakia. The method of data collection was the Brief COPE questionnaire (Carver, 1997), which we used in Slovak translation. For data analysis, we used statistical methods such as simple statistical description, analysis of variance one way ANOVA, Student's T-test. The results significantly (p≤ .05) suggest that future preschool and elementary teachers most often use strategies such as emotional and instrumental support, planning and active coping. Future social educators most often use planning as well as positive management and acceptance. Such results are largely consistent with several other studies. Our findings bring an opportunity to optimize future teachers and social educators training and to support topics as stress management, resilience and coping of university students.
