Abstract:
The article primarily deals with the use of virtual and mixed reality (hereinafter referred to as VR and AR) in the teaching process. In the article, we describe and clarify the definition of virtual and mixed reality and their difference, we analyze in detail the scenarios that are available, tested and implemented in teaching. Finally, we evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of using VR and AR technologies and propose recommendations for optimal use in the pedagogical environment. Students of the University of Žilina in Žilina, the Faculty of Security Engineering, the Department of Crisis Management use VR and AR in their classes to better understand the issue, create a more authentic environment, and show examples of industrial areas that are not always accessible. Within the framework of several projects, we achieved excellent results that were directly implemented in VR and AR goggles. The implementation of innovative forms of education in the teaching process brought positive feedback from students. Students can more easily identify the dangers and threats found at workplaces in various areas of operation. The aim of the article is to identify the benefits of these technologies for the educational process and provide an overview of their application. Secondary objectives are to describe the advantages and disadvantages of both technologies and to discuss their significant differences in use.
