Abstract:
Emotional aspect turns out to play an essential role in teaching the basics of speech communication. It is equally important in teaching and learning foreign languages.
The contemporary psycholinguistics have proved that emotions produce a vital impact on human behavior and all spheres of human activities, including speech communication. There is a necessity to examine verbal means of exteriorization of emotions in speech in different cultures. Teaching a foreign language should provide a profound knowledge of national peculiarities of the emotional component of speech. Students ought to develop communicative skills of using verbal means (modal verbs, their grammatical and lexical equivalents, phraseology, etc.) in compliance with a situation and intention.
The concept of a regulative function of speech as a special kind of human activity provides a profound basis for a comprehensive research of functional characteristics of verbal means expressing emotions. In any native language the emotive verbal means are represented by phraseology as well as other stylistically determined units and components of a language system. The phraseology performs the main regulative role in emotional discourse. When teaching a foreign language it is necessary to draw the students’ attention to the interdependence of speech and national cultural traditions.
The conceptual field of emotion can be divided into several micro fields according to the social roles of participants of speech communication. Besides, there are spheres of positive and negative assessment of situation. Each of them is characterized by a certain assortment of phraseology. It is considered to be a vital constituent of a national language and culture as a whole.
The didactic exploitation of this concept is seen in teaching students to identify the emotional status of speech and to employ the relevant verbal means to regulate the partner’s activity. It is also useful in the process of comprehending speech or text and thus to perceive its message by structuring and organizing the information. It is thought to be an effective method of developing productive communication skills. Moreover special methodological techniques of training languages sensibility should be implemented into educational process. Keywords:
