Abstract:
Lesson plans, assessments and grading are integral responsibilities of any teacher. Students in the 21st Century demand transparency in grading of their projects. Rubrics are great assessment tools for both instructor and the students. It is unclear when the rubrics were introduced in education, however some researches claim their first usage in the mid-1990s. Rubrics have been widely used for assessing the writing assignments and oral presentations. With the new technological advancements in the field of education, Learning Management Systems help the instructor as well as the student to improve the quality of assignments and projects. This research aims to develop effective rubrics in the field of Fashion Design with clear descriptors to improve the understanding and support the learning process of the students. This is an applied research where the researcher recognized the need to develop rubrics to grade garment construction projects in Fashion. This paper discusses the challenges faced while developing clear logical descriptors for various apparel construction projects and also the success in the same. Development of five level rubric scale (as per the university standards) with clear criteria and descriptors not only increased the efficiency of grading but also the transparency and consistency in grading.
