Abstract:
Motion graphics is a diverse field including 2d, 3d animations, digital e-books, info graphic videos and visual effects. Motion graphics can be defined as pieces of digital footage or animation which create an illusion of motion and are usually combined with an audio. Cartoons are the best example of an effective motion graphic. Since long, animation has been widely used to teach moral values and simple concepts to kindergarten students as they can easily associate with the cartoon characters. The use of moving figures with music and jingles improves the retention power. Animation attracts the attention of everyone irrespective of age and profession. In this digital age, animation has also been used to teach concepts to school going children especially those suffering from dyslexia. This paper is an action research where both the authors pooled in the resources from their respective expertise to develop an effective strategy to explain theoretical scientific concepts to Fashion Design students in higher education. This research is an experiment in the classroom to change the lecture based environment into an active learning environment using simulation in the form of info graphic videos. The results of both types of learning strategies were compared and analysed. The new approach not only enhanced the understanding of the concepts but also improved retention and effective application of the learnt concepts.
