Abstract:

This paper deals with the development of a questionnaire for lecturers to investigate their experiences with the creation and reception of e-learning production from the student side. The design and the framework of the questionnaire were developed according to quality criteria and methods of empirical social research and intersubjectively validated, using various collaborative software applications.

Aschaffenburg and Darmstadt Universities of Applied Sciences developed a part-time bachelor program electrical engineering and information technology in a joint-venture. It is open to non-traditional engineering students and funded by the BMBF (German Federal Ministry for Education and Research) initiative “Aufstieg durch Bildung” (Upward mobility through academic training). Its blended-learning concept aims at a design that motivates lecturers to develop new ideas about e-learning content and seeks to implement as many ideas as possible. At kick-off, a questionnaire on implementation and experiences with e-learning content was developed and filled in by the lecturers. During the program each module is evaluated and the students are asked about their experiences with the e-learning contents. We critically compare the results of the questionnaire for the lecturers against the results of the students´ evaluation. The aim is to find out about potential to improve the e-learning environment.

We chose a specific framework of topic clusters: motivation and lecturers’ prior experiences, production process and material, evaluation and desiderata. The questionnaire will be presented and its scientific base and practical relevance discussed. The results of the survey are going to be used to identify challenges in e-based learning environment in distant learning study programs.
