Abstract:

Further education of the citizens is one of the necessary attributes of the time today. The environment of municipalities and cities is influenced by a number of factors that can negatively affect the lives of the inhabitants who live in them. Such factors include extraordinary events that are very difficult to predict. We try to reduce their negative impact on the environment where they arise through civil protection. Its mission is to protect life, health and property and to create the conditions for survival in emergencies. One of the ways in which this can be achieved is through the preparation and education of the citizens. In order to set the right way of education, it is necessary to know the current knowledge of the citizens. In the article, we focused on the current level of knowledge in the field of civil protection in the selected city. Information about their current knowledge was obtained using a questionnaire survey. The survey also focused on ways of educating and informing. These data have made it possible to suggest opportunities for better education of the citizens in the field of civil protection and thus improve their preparedness to deal with emergencies. These aspects are particularly important in the current period, which, in addition to the usual emergencies, is threatened by epidemiological threats - including the COVID-19 pandemic.
