Abstract:
Education success of the student, his academic achievements depend largely on how fast a first year student gets comfortable with a new environment, how soon he goes through adaptation.

Adaptation of students at institutes of higher education implies mastering the competence to meet the requirements, rules and regulations of the educational institution, being active in unfamiliar environment and reaching their full potential. Education in the first year either becomes an impetus to the development of the student or leads to trouble in communication, behavior and, as a result, reduction in effectiveness of education.

Quick adaptation of the student is a significant condition for further development of the most effective ways of learning activities. This process is fast moving, a series of conditions have an impact on its success: functional state of the student, psychological readiness to accept new, commitment to achieve the set goals.

The purpose of our study is to research the impact of various adaptation factors on academic success: social, motivational, functional, and emotional. There were selected criteria to assess the level of student adaptiveness to activities of different nature.

Research methodology included theoretical analysis and summary of scientific literature, diagnostic testing, synthesis of information, data comparison, questionnaire, multiple factor analysis, comparative analysis, modelling.

An important result of the research is indication of the ties between social, motivational, emotional and functional aspects of adaptation, and modelling of the successfully oriented student. Indication of these ties has a great practical value for the reason that it allows to influence over the process of adaptation of the student to outside environment and to support his academic success.

The research results are interpreted, subject to quantitative and qualitative analysis and presented in this article.
