Abstract:
From the first appearance of the generative AI (chat GPT) educators have had mixed feelings about its potential. There are obvious benefits and numerous drawbacks and fears. Teachers know they could not ignore AI, but they lack knowledge and skills to use it. In the project SETCOM extensive research was done to see the current state of teachers’ competences in AI and (SEL) Social and Emotional Learning competences with the aim to prepare a working system of knowledge and good practice exchange. Partners from kindergarten to academia are involved. During the project we gather a lot of data, and we can make multiple comparisons. Nevertheless, the importance of ethics of AI emerges all the time. We cannot escape the generative AI and students will use it or misuse it. Our goal is to teach students ethical use of AI, so we must address all ethical topics of AI.
This article discusses the attitude of the teachers toward AI. The data from the beginning of the project (October 2022) were compared with the contemporary teachers’ opinion. In this short time AI changed enormously and most of the teachers changed too. Teachers become familiar with the AI’s abilities. They find a way to distinguish the work of AI and the work of student, but it gets more complicated with GPT4 that requires payment. The most important unanswered question now is who from the students can pay for better AI and who does not. Therefore, the ethics consideration of the use of AI needs to be all present. Keywords:
