Abstract:
Learning of clinical dental skills is often difficult for students. Live demonstrations are hard for students to visualize and even more difficult for them to recognize small details. Even more critical, a live demonstration is impossible for a student to rewind and review for learning at their own pace.
Development of a procedural video requires the production team to determine “small” steps/scripts of the procedures to be demonstrated. Video recording must include clear multi-angle videos that emphasizes the three dimensional nature of the procedure. Careful editing, voice-over recording (even in multiple languages) and development a logical “chapter” format are required to allow the student the ability to quickly search and view the subject area requiring additional learning. Videos are presented in the sequence of the clinical procedure with digital chapters permitting quick search and viewing as a reference. Unlike a live demonstration, the procedure is presented synchronously from multiple angles so that the learner can appreciate the actual positioning as it relates to the patient and the individual tooth being treated.
At the conclusion of this presentation attendees will understand the value of customized demonstration videos and the fundamentals of how to script, multi-angle recording of the video and final presentation of these videos. Keywords:
