Abstract:
The relevance of the topic is related to the role of values in the life of a modern person and emotional intelligence as a factor in self-knowledge and knowledge of other people. These characteristics are especially important in the activities of practical psychologists. The aim of the study was to identify the correlation of different values and components of emotional intelligence among university students. On the problem of studying value orientations, the theoretical basis of the work was the researches of domestic and foreign psychologists Barabanshchikov, Bubnova, Trikoz, Inglehart, Wenzel, Schwartz, and others, as well as well-known studies of emotional intelligence (Meyer, Caruso, Salovey, Goleman, Bar-On, Ovsyannikova, Sergienko, Lyusin, etc.). Two tests were used as investigative methods: “Diagnostics of the real structure of the value orientations of a person” by S. S. Bubnova; questionnaire of emotional intelligence (EMIN) D.V. Lucina. The respondents were 106 of the 3rd and 4th years psychology students (bachelors). The search for and enjoyment of the beautiful, as well as a pleasant pastime and recreation, were dominant in the hierarchy of values in the sample. The lowest value in our sample was the value of social activity. The integral indicator of emotional intelligence for the sample corresponded to the average level. Despite the specifics of the hierarchy of values in the sample as a whole, stepwise regression analysis showed that the model predicting the level of emotional intelligence included only one value as a predictor: mercy and helping people, albeit with a low predictive power (β = 0.238, p = 0.017). At the same time, factor analysis showed the existence of two factors, one of which included all the components of emotional intelligence and its overall level of integrity, the second factor – 4 values: knowledge of the new, the value of recognition and respect, the search and enjoyment of the beautiful, and the value of social activity. The value of helping and mercy had the largest number of significant correlations: with the four components of emotional intelligence and its overall level (although with a low strength of connection). The results of the study showed the existence of a connection between values and social intelligence among psychology students, but revealed the weakness of these connections and a number of contradictions in the development of these psychological characteristics of the personality. Keywords:
