FACTORS STIMULATING PARENTS’ INVOLVEMENT TO ACTIVITIES OF PRE-SCHOOL ESTABLISHMENT

Abstract:
A positive impact of parents’ involvement to activities of pre-school establishment is noted by all members of the establishment community. Parents’ participation has a positive effect on children’s achievement, mental health, social relations with surrounding people; it helps the parents to develop necessary parenting skills, share experience with other parents, maintain continuity of children’s education in their home environment, provides the opportunity to pedagogues to address emerging education issues more efficiently.
The aim of this research is to reveal what factors and why encourage parents to get involved to the activities of pre-school institution. A standardized interview (to collect data for empirical study) and content analysis (analysis of empirical data) were applied in the research.
The study is based on humanistic approach when education is grounded by partnership aspects, democracy, human relationships, the education institution relation to social environment and creation of democratic community are actualized. Also, it is based on constructivist approach when it is passed from the method of basic reporting to parents on their children’s education and knowledge transfer to active engagement of parents in the activities of education institution. Parents of children in pre-school education participated in the research. The material received during the interviews with parents of pre-school children was analyzed in a consistent and inductive manner by distinguishing semantic units, formulating them to sub-categories and then to categories illustrated with quotes from interview protocols.
The research findings allowed concluding specifically on parents’ involvement to activities of pre-school establishments, the level of their engagement, frequency of parent visits and involvement to pre-school institution activities as well as identifying factors stimulating parents’ involvement and possibilities of support from parents to pedagogues.Keywords:
