Abstract:
Mathematics and some special courses in civil engineering study programs are brothers and sisters. Mathematics has great role in higher education in geodesy and other civil engineering study programs. Civil engineering study programs are focused to educate students for solving theoretical problems in designing transport structures and buildings, for obtaining knowledge in new technologies in constructions, modeling, strain analysis and computer based numerical simulations, for obtaining abilities in theoretical analysis, measuring and diagnostics of transport structures subjected to dynamic loading and to educate them in geodesy and cartography. The goals of teaching and learning of these subjects are conditional by good knowledge of some parts of mathematics. This means that good knowledge of various parts of mathematics is required as well from teachers as well from students. As for the teachers, they should do research in their scientific area in a high level, which should be connected with mathematics. For civil engineering study programs the priority have these parts of mathematics: calculus, analytic geometry, differential geometry, computer based geometry, spherical geometry, ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations, harmonic analysis, numerical mathematics, special functions, etc. In civil engineering, the study programs of mathematics courses, these parts of mathematics are involved in various forms, which is influenced by mathematics teachers´ scientific work. In the contribution we will give some details on teaching and learning some parts of mathematics in civil engineering study programs in connection with mathematics teachers´ research work. We will involve our experience and we will point out some examples from our research and educational practice.
