Abstract:
By the term “professional readiness” of the human resource of education we mean all those cognitive and psychosocial skills with the support of which the teacher of the modern age needs to be equipped in order to handle educational change with effectiveness. Skills such as effective communication, self-awareness and emotion management are part of what it is called as “life skills”.

The term "life skills" refers to a group of cognitive and psychosocial, personal and interpersonal skills, which help people to make conscious decisions, communicate and interact effectively with others, deal with everyday problems leading to a happy and productive life.

Τhe subject of our research is based on the main research question concerning the need of Human Resource Development in greek education to be enriched with what it is called as “life skills”, in order to support, improve and ensure the “professional readiness” of teachers and principals in times of crisis.

Human Resource Development, as research has already proved, is one of the main keys for school effectiveness and, mainly, for school improvement.

In this context we will study:
a. Life skills as a component of the professional readiness of teachers and principals,
b. Professional readiness in times of crisis (definition issues),
c. Points for further development of the human resource of education.
