Abstract:
At a time when we are surrounded by a global pandemic and we are constantly encountering emergencies, we are increasingly seeking information on first aid, firefighting and civil protection. It is very important to have quality and up-to-date information in the field of safety and assistance. But where do we get this information from? The answer to this question is our first encounter with the provision of information, and that is education. Specific education at primary school. The truth is that primary schools provide us with safety and assistance information first, but how can we be sure that this information is up-to-date and tailored to today's needs.

This is the issue we address in our study. To obtain input data for our study to review the current education system, we contacted two primary schools. Each primary school was from a different background and with a different number of students. Specifically, we cooperated with pupils in the 4th grade of the first grade. We used an interrogation method - a questionnaire - to examine the current level of education in the areas of safety among 4th grade pupils. To create the questions of the questionnaire, we first examined the education system of primary schools in the Slovak Republic. Which works on the principle of a two-tier system. It shows primary schools not only to follow educational standards but also allows them to adapt the content of teaching according to the needs of students. With this finding, we can see the differences in education in the primary schools we studied in the areas of civil protection, fire protection and first aid.

Subsequently, we used a questionnaire to check the level of education in the areas of civil protection, fire protection and first aid. After processing the obtained data, we created several methodological measures to improve the level of education in the given areas. These measures included worksheets for students, methodological sheets for teachers and a presentation of worksheets. We applied these methodological measures in selected primary schools together with practical training. To verify the success of our proposed and applied methodological measures in primary schools, we again asked pupils to fill out the same questionnaire.

By evaluating and comparing the newly obtained data from the questionnaire, we came to the conclusion that the education system in primary schools in the fields of civil protection, fire protection and first aid is focused mainly on the theoretical basis and has a lack of practical training. The information provided in these areas is only to a small extent expanded and repeated more. Our proposed and verified methodological measures increased the level of education in the given areas and at the same time caused increased interest in pupils in civil protection, fire protection and first aid.
